Waves - G. Freese

Transverse waves and longitudinal waves can be combined together and create a surface wave.Transverse waves can move across. Longitudinal waves cannot. Transverse waves have crests and troughs longitudinal waves do not. Transverse waves and longitudinal waves vibrate. Both of the waves that are being compared are part of sound waves.

A medium is an object through waves can move around. Energy is passed through a medium. Mediums are needed for sound waves, ocean waves, and mechanical waves. Sound energy needs a medium. Medium is needed for waves.

Crests are the highest point of a transverse waves. Crests are the opposite of troughs.

Troughs are the lowest point of a transverse wave.

Waves have different types. The types of waves are transverse waves, longitudinal waves, electromagnetic waves, and mechanical waves. Waves move energy based on vibrations.

Rarefactions happens when particles separate. Rarefactions are similar to compressions.

Compressions are when particles are close in a longitudinal wave. Compressions are similar to rarefactions.
